3D Optical Digitizers
Patterned light is projected onto subjects; deformation is recorded by an off-set camera. Triangulation calculates a 3D mesh. Fast, accurate and adaptable for human portraiture.

3D Laser Scanners
A laser line moves over subjects' surfaces; an off-set camera records deformation. Triangulation calculates a 3D mesh. Slower, but higher accuracy enabled for static objects.

3D Mechanical Digitizers
Mechanical arms physically probe objects, guided by the user; points are recorded on the surface of subjects. Intuitive but slow. Unsuitable for delicate objects.

3D Scanning software
View, edit and export scan data efficiently and accurately. Triangulation, registration and merging algorithms, polygon editing, CAD conversion, model export for web viewing.

Enhanced Geometry Solutions - LeiosMesh

LeiosMesh is an affordable but powerful 3D scanning and reverse engineering software for the elaboration of 3D scannings and for simple reverse engineering activities. The software loads the point cloud from any scanning system, registers the different scannings and quickly processes and transforms them into a single watertight mesh model, valid for rapid prototyping, finite element analysis, animation, control and inspection.

LeiosMesh imports data obtained with 3D scanners or touch probes for transforming the point clouds, typically derived from the scans, in mathematical meshes or NURBS: this procedure is called "reverse engineering". With LeiosMesh you can transform the mesh in a model out of NURBS patches, automatically or semi-automatically, drawing the boundaries of the patches directly on the mesh.

Standard Workflow:

  • Import of the 3D point cloud data from a file produced by the measuring system (laser or touch-probe 3D scanner, digitiser, structured light, time-of-flight, CMM machines) in ASCII, STL and other formats.
  • Registration and merging of several clouds or meshes in a single cloud.
  • Primary processing of the point cloud: noise and redundancy cleaning, filtering, smoothing and so on.
  • Automatic triangulation procedure transforms a disordered point cloud into a triangle mesh.
  • Further processing of the triangle mesh: manifold healing, smoothing, hole-filling, decimation or refinement etc.
  • Automatic or semi-automatic model reconstruction with NURBS patches.
  • Comparison between mesh model and NURBS model.
