3D Optical Digitizers
Patterned light is projected onto subjects; deformation is recorded by an off-set camera. Triangulation calculates a 3D mesh. Fast, accurate and adaptable for human portraiture.
3D Laser Scanners
A laser line moves over subjects' surfaces; an off-set camera records deformation. Triangulation calculates a 3D mesh. Slower, but higher accuracy enabled for static objects.
3D Mechanical Digitizers
Mechanical arms physically probe objects, guided by the user; points are recorded on the surface of subjects. Intuitive but slow. Unsuitable for delicate objects.
3D Scanning software
View, edit and export scan data efficiently and accurately. Triangulation, registration and merging algorithms, polygon editing, CAD conversion, model export for web viewing.

Arius3D - Pointstream
Software (Arius 3D)
Pointstream is a unique solution for delivering
3D content onto the web and handheld wireless devices. The Pointstream software
is used to process the densely sampled 'point cloud' generated by the Arius3D
colour scanning system. The result is a true 3D image that is comparable in
image quality and file size to textured polygon models, but with a number of
significant advantages.
Arius3D Pointstream Scalable 3D Images
Scalable 3D Images
The Pointstream 3D image representation can
be quickly and easily scaled from a high-resolution archive image to a small
thumbnail image. The ability to scale 3D images in the same way that 2D images
are scaled allows a single archive quality data stream to be re-purposed for
a variety of applications and devices. With Arius3D Pointstream, the number
of points in the 3D image, and the resulting file size, is increased or decreased
based on the size of the display window.
The simplicity of the Arius 3D Pointstream
image representation, using a 'pixel' as the object primitive, enables true
progressive transmission of 3D content. The 3D image can be organised into a
multi-resolution hierarchy and streamed based on the viewing window. Because
only pixels are used, the 3D image representation is not dependent upon hardware
for accelerated polygon rendering.
High volume, low cost production pipeline
With the Arius3D Pointstream image representation,
the reverse engineering process of fitting polygons to point cloud data is eliminated.
A complete scan data set of an object in point cloud format can be processed
and embedded into a web page in less than a minute, and the data that is presented
to the user is scientific data sampled directly from the physical object. The
difficulties that 3D content providers go through today to arrange texture maps
and applying them is eliminated.
The Arius3D Pointstream Advantage
Arius3D Pointstream models, derived automatically
from Arius3D colour scanner data, offers the advantages of very low human interaction
involvement, very fast processing times, low bandwidth/storage requirements,
very natural multiple resolution model framework, and low graphics hardware
complexity for smaller devices.

Pointstream 3DImageSuite
3DImageSuite contains an advanced set of tools
that allow you to view and edit digital imaging data in xyzrgb (colour point
cloud) format. You can use 3DImageSuite to create secondary content such as
2d images, animated movies, or even physical parts using 3d printing machines,
directly from 3d measurement data.
3DImageSuite can export the Arius3d measurement
data in a variety of formats for use with commercially available software programs.
The Arius3d scan data can be exported as points, polylines or polygons using
standard data exchange formats. 3DImageSuite can also import other forms of
data such as points, polylines, polygons, and b-spline surfaces.

Pointstream 3DImagePlayer
The 3DimagePlayer is an ActiveX control that
enables the viewing of 3d image data within web browsers and office automation
software. The 3DimagePlayer uses the host application as a container for the
3d image window. An html script is used to control the display with Internet
Explorer and Netscape web browsers. You can embed 3d Image data within Word
documents and Power Point presentations by inserting the PsPlayerCtrl Class
ActiveX control object.
q   Is it possible to import "point cloud data" (.psi) into Point Stream 3D Image suite?
a   PSI is a proprietary file format from Pointstream for describing point cloud data (each point may contains xyz, rgb and ijk) and other 3D geometry data. It can be imported into the Pointstream 3DImageSuite application.
q   Can I merge other point cloud image files into the current data without loss?
a   No data loss occurs after merging two point cloud images. For example, if there are overlapped points in the merged image, they will be faithfully preserved. However, If you wish, these points can be removed with a unique filter tool.
q   Can I provide interactivity by adding labels and leads?
a   Right now there is no support for interactively adding labels and leads.
q   Is it possible to export the cloud data into formats accepted by 3ds max, Maya, etc without data loss?
a   In order to export a point cloud into formats accepted by 3dx Max or Maya, it first needs to be converted to a polygon mesh model. This conversion process generally involves data loss. 3DImageSuite has tools to do this conversion. However, the quality and the degree of data loss depends on the quality of the underlying point cloud data.
q   Can I print the image at a defined resolution?
a   Yes. In fact, 3DimageSuite may have the best tools on the market to allow a user to render/print a 3D model into a 2D image at high quality and specified resolution.
q   Can I animate the psi data file?
a   Yes. 3DImageSuite has tools to allow a user to animate a point cloud.
q   Can I export the output in formats accepted by web applications.?
a   Yes. Pointstream has a Web plug-in player, 3DImagePlayer, which allows you to interactively visualize your 3D point cloud model in a Web environment. This player can also be embedded into any Microsoft office applications, such as Word and PowerPoint. 3DImageSuite offers easy-to-use authoring tools for publishing your 3D point clouds in a HTML page.
q   Can 3d mesh data, created in Maya or 3ds max be imported into the point cloud software, without any data loss. (3d mesh data into point cloud data)?
a   Yes, we support Alias|Wavefront OBJ file, VRML file, InnoMetric POL file, Stanford PLY file, IGS file and STL file.
